Shelaine and Ben had a beautiful summer day for their Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel wedding. As everyone knows, the weather in Calgary can be unpredictable in late summer, but it was one of the most beautiful weekends in August to get married. The sky was clear, the weather was warm, and their wedding was very romantic.

First Look

Shelaine, Ben, and their wedding party started the day with a first look at the Calgary Central Library in the downtown core. The library provides such stunning architecture which made for some spectacular photos. The library opened in 2018, contains five levels and has over 600,000 items.

After their first look, the wedding party headed inside the library to take photos and then made their way back to the Calgary Marriott Downtown hotel to get ready for their ceremony.

Their Wedding

They chose to have their wedding at the Calgary Marriott Downtown because it holds very special memories for them. Their colors were composed of navy, burgundy, and gold with pops of soft pink and a small hint of mustard yellow. It was the perfect wedding color combination heading into the fall.

Shelaine and Ben’s main priority from the time we started planning their wedding was to ensure that their guests were taken care of, had fun, and enjoyed themselves. As guests arrived, they were greeted with cocktails and an outdoor sitting space. They were able to mingle with other guests before the ceremony began. Their ceremony took place on the Calgary Marriott Downtown rooftop patio which offers gorgeous views of the surrounding buildings. The hotel has a perfect rooftop patio that overlooks the Calgary Skyline and is large enough that we were able to create a cocktail space with lots of seating options and have the setup for the ceremony at the same time.

After the ceremony, guests headed inside for the reception. We were originally looking to hold the reception outside as well but as their wedding day got closer, we made the decision to hold the reception inside so the guests would be warm and comfortable. We created place cards for each guest so they knew where to sit and decided to also have the place card double as the guest favours. Each guest received a personalized, hand-written letter from Shelaine and Ben. It is the most unique and personal gift a couple could give their guests. It was the perfect touch and made each guest feel so appreciated and even closer to Shelaine and Ben.

After a delicious dinner, catered by the hotel, the outdoor patio had been transformed for the evening complete with outdoor string lights along with comfortable seating sections. The Downtown Calgary skyline at night provided a gorgeous backdrop to complete this space. Their guests danced the night away to the always entertaining New Soul Duo and DJ Yaya.

Final Thoughts

I was fortunate to work with Shelaine and Ben throughout their entire wedding planning experience. They lived in Ontario during the time so I was their heels on the ground in Calgary! We had so much fun planning their wedding and I looked forward to every call with them.

I knew they wanted their family and friends to have an amazing time so we made sure to add in personal touches throughout the wedding. Their friends and family still talk about how great Shelaine and Ben’s wedding was!
